Bell Lightbox / Festival Towers
At the corner of King and John in downtown Toronto a major Canadian landmark is being contructed to house the Toronto International Film Festival, North America’s premier film festival. Named the Bell Lightbox, it will include four small cinemas, exhibition space, a film reference library and festival staff offices (14,200 m2). Intergrated into the structure, the Festival Tower, a 39,640 m2, 380-unit condo apartment building, will rise above the podium.
The mix of commercial, institutional and residential space has made for a complex design. The C.I.P. Group will perform all structural concrete formwork for the project. A myriad of exposed concrete columns, exposed concrete ceilings and a tight construction schedule will make it quite challenging for the C.I.P. Group. Combined with the logistical difficulties associated with prime downtown real estate this project will surely be quite demanding for all trades and require the type of coordination and cooperation the C.I.P. Group is known for.
